well, that's better news!
i managed to detach it from my toadstool, and i moved it more north in the tank. I know it looks washed out in the pic, but when i looked at it today, it's a much darker brown.
the "mouth" that i saw earlier turned out not to be a mouth... I found that when i moved it, the tentacles just completely sucked in so it looks like a golf ball, but with holes instead of dimples... is that something a xenia would do???

oh, and the hitchiker is the size of a peanut (out of the shell), so i don't think they'll take it as a trade-in..

do xenia's ever suck in their tentacles all of the way? My guy did... do flower pots do that? I really want to figure out what it is so i can care for it properly! any help would be much appreciated!

I still think it's just a daughter colony. They look like a dimpled ball when they're retracted. It should be obvious whether there's a stony skeleton when the tentacles/polyps are retracted.
