Hi.

I purchased a fish over the weekend and was advised by the store that it was a damsel. I planned on him being last into the tank and compatibility charts said he'd be OK with my other fish. But I cannot identify what type of fish this "damsel" is. It is completely black/grey with a lyre-type tail. He also seems to be very timid, hiding most of the day in the live rock, only poking his head out now and then. My B&W clown chases him but it seems almost like play -- he doesn't just hide, he lets the clown chase him, then the clown backs off, then chases some more, etc. He comes out to feed, darting quickly out and back under the rock. And at night when just the LEDs are on he seems to be much more active with crazy darting movements, up-and-down W shapes.
Can anyone help me identify this fish? If he's exhibiting aggression I want to take him back because everything else in my tank is peaceful and gets along great. (30-gal nano hqi, B&W clown, pajama cardinal, bicolor blenny, and 6-line wrasse have been together for about a year, everyone gets along great. also corals and inverts.)
I'll try to get a pic tonight. It's tough cuz he is super fast.
Thanks

did you look at the pics to the left under fish? there's only a couple "black" damsels (although, most have some white). problem with them though...
black damsels are the closest to the devil...they end up being VERY aggressive

Yes, I checked the damsel images here and on many other sites and can't find a good match. There's definitely no white on him at all. So far it seems the other fish are more aggressive toward him, not the other way around.
Any ideas?

That's a tough one... maybe something simmilar to a Neopomacentrus taeniurus? (look up different pics of it on google as well)
But N. taeniurus
is a brackish water damsel so.... I dunno :(
