Greetings all,
Need help identifying crystal looking spots that just recently appeared on sailfin tang. On side fins, Tail fin and sides of body. Looked at other pictures of tangs and they look like they have a few. Maybe it is natural and I just didn't notice them. Spots appeared over night in abundance? I didn't really notice the spots until after about two hours of addind five gal of ro saltwater. Am I being paranoid?

Do you have better pictures? I see his fins clamped. It looks like he has ich on him. You have some active swimmers in a tank that is small for them. Do you have a quarantine tank? How long have you had the sailfin? If you have had him for awhile, then what was the last fish added?

I have had him for about four days he was the last fish added to the tank, but I added some live rock with zoas on it. He is in a quarantine tank now.

What is going on in the QT? Does he have ich? Are you confident in how to diagnose ich? It is salt sized spots on the fish. They can be smaller or larger. If you look with a magnifying glass, they are ALWAYS smooth and round.

Hmmm....can't really tell what they look like in the QT with a mag. He is just swimming back and fourth like normal. White specles..

He has white spots on him right? He introduced ich to the rest of your fish. There are two other tangs, a clown and a damsel, correct? What size is your QT? Ich is in your display now.

QT is 20 gallons. Yes that is correct two tangs and damsel what do you recommend?
Treating one would be pointless, in all honesty. Ich is now in the display. You have to pull them all. Is this tank cycled? How big are these fish? They will be in there for awhile. You can look at your fish and know if they are going to make two months, or more, in this 20 or not.

Tank is about 45 days. Pull them all and then what just let the ich run its cycle in the display or treat it?

The display will be fish-less. Ich needs a host to live. You will have to leave it fish-less for two months. Hyposalinity takes roughly 5-6 weeks. This Qt is cycled, that is much better than putting fish into an uncycled QT. Are the fish still small? This is your call.

False alarm....took my Sailfin to the LFS to have them look at it. They said the fish is okay and those which I thought were spots were normal. Also gave me advice in treating ich in the future and how to prevent it with garlic.
