This came on a mushroom rock my sister bought.Any thoughts.It is only about 1-1 1/2 inches in diameter....

I was just at the fish store yesterday and they had the exact same thing on some rocks as well. I never saw them before either. There were multiple anemones(?) on the rocks. Next time I'm there I'll ask and see what they say.

the rock enemones i have are smaller than 1.5 more like .75 but im sure they grow a little bigger. i,m gona try and look it up i,ll be back!

I have about 5 of them, two of them are big. I shot boiling water all over them yesturday and now they are back with white burnt tentacles. So, that doesn't work. If you find out how to kill them, let me know because they are getting bigger and moving around a lot. <img src="graemlins//yell.gif" border="0" alt="[yell]" />

Just so you know it is a bright neon green color with a triangle shape at the end of each tentacle.
I have seen large ones like this and they sold for quite a bit of money...that is why once I got it home I really thought it was a bubble tip anenome(sp)...
I have all gobies in my tank and i would rather not loose them to this.

I read someplace the name of this anemone. It is called anemonia majano. I have one in my tank that was in a raspberry leather rock. He was very tiny and I got him out. He has taken up on a mushroom rock, and I feed him just as I do my other anemonies. I've had him for several months, and he doesn't seem to be very aggressive. At least he stays put, unlike the others lol.

I have the same thing in my tank and i could not find in any book what these guys are. Thank you for all your help. So I am going to have to use kalk to get rid of these critters. I like the looks of them but I do not want them to kill any of my corals

Yeah, those are majano's. I have about 10 of them left right now. I was on a search and destroy mission yesterday to rid the tank of some strays. They can reproduce by splitting or budding and these little fellas like to move around too! I had a couple of them stray over to other corals, some were bothered by them, some were not. What I did was to remove the rock with them on it, try and scrape off as much as I could of the anemone, then cover up the rest with aquarium sealant. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then back in the tank it goes. The ones I still have are on their own rock, so they can stay.....for now

definitely NOT a bubbletip anemone. it's a hitchhiker mojano anemone. sort of like aiptasia...uck!! hope this helps

Another way to deal w/ ridding your tank of things like this is to use the same epoxies many people use to attach corals to rocks. Just cover over the retracted animal.
