Id this urchin

My LFS got these urchins in, they say reef safe but I don’t trust them. Besides they don’t know what kind they are other than they are urchins.

Are the top and bottom pics the same????
It kind of looks like my purple urchin, I have one in my reef tank...has not eaten anything.
(EDIT: the one in your pics seem to have a lot more spines)
They do say monitor with reef though.....you know how they say everything has its own personality...if you get it, just watch it

Same kind, I don't think I'll be getting them I love my corals.

If you have corals I wouldn't, it's hard to tell from your picture but next time your at your LFS look at it really closely if it has tenticle's and at the end of them has a pin size ball, your asking for trouble, it will pickup everything in its path.

It is probably Lytechinus variegatus.
