ID?

Ok I have this thing that looks like a tube worm coming out of the sediment in my tank, I thought it might be a featherduster, but it hasnt grown any feathers or a tube. It has about 8 small tentacles that are about a cm long each, and radiate out from a circular mouthpart (also doesnt look like the featherduster's mouth). It's whitish, and has maybe some brown or dark orange on its tentacles... anyone know what it is?

it's probably some sort of sand sifter worm; very beneficial; I bet if you used a flash light a couple of hours after your lights go out on the tank, you'd probably see that there are more than one of those; might be a medusa worm; sometimes online retailers may sell thEse as part of clean up package;we've had one large one living in LR for at least 1-2 years and have seen more with other LR added

Well I just looked up Aptasia, and it doesnt look like that, so Im hopeful. Does anyone have pictures of the other sand sifting worms that Jakob was talking about?

LOL, doesnt really look like that either, but I cannot see its body, that stays hidden all the time, its just the tentacles that I can see. Oh well, it doesnt seem to be doing anything bad :)

well that the trouble with pics like that; usually they are of zoological quality; that probably is it, just like you said before;differnt speciies;you would have to enlarge a pic of the one we have to get that kind of detail though; have you checked for more at night hours after lights out?

Yep, I checked for more, but havent found any yet. My shrimp stepped on it yesterday, and the thing brought all of its tentacles around its leg, but the let go of the shrimp, scared them both I think :p
