Idea to prevent tank crashing while vacationing...

After hearing the tragic stories regarding several members losses of their tanks due to power outages, I have attempted to solve this delima and think I found an answer. I travel quite a bit in my line of work and wish I could take the tank with me :) but, I knew this was impossible. So, I am going to set up a webcam on my tank and write a program (or find something) to set up streaming video. This way, I can monitor the tank, and monitor the power of the house (ie, no video, no power) at least its a start, let me know what you guys think :)

I had a iffy power connection at my apt when i moved in, so i put a computer battery back up as my surge strip, haven't had a problem that i know of. the longest i was without power was an hour (that i know of) and the tank never skipped a beat, but i only put the bare minimum needed to keep the tank running on the backup, eg pump and heater, of course it's also on a 5 gal, but it might help you out by buying some time to get your buddy over there.

WebCam sounds good, yahoo webcam seems pretty easy to setup.
I had a power outage about a month ago, and when everything powered back on the pump that flow from the sump to the chiller didn't start up. (Rio pumps suck) or maybe I just have a bad batch.
Anyways, I came home from work with a frozen chiller. There was Ice inside my chiller.
What a headache:
:)
