What is the ideal temp for my tank? I have some coral, lr, and a few fish... a clown, 3 blennies and a queen conch. I think my tank is to warm. It reads at 82. thanks
lotta people have different temps they believe is correct. I keep mine at 79-81. Ive heard mostly temps between 78-84. Trick is, whatever temp you have your at, given its safe for the fish, just make sure it doesnt fluctuate more than about 3-4 degrees in a short period of time. Lotta times, its stress that affects fish, not the temp.
I keep my tank at about 80-82 F. It use to be arounf 78-80 until I added my VHO's, now the average temp is up to 80-82 F. Everything seems more active and colorful now (probably from the lights). Oh well I'm not sure what I'm talking about, buts that what happened in my tank.
But it's starting to cool off up here in eastern Canada now....next summer will be my first summer with the halides.
When the temps go up next summer, a chiller will be in order.
My temps were at 82-83 daytime with the halides running, then I decided to go topless! Now temp is 79 daytime, 77-78 nightime. Everthing looks much healthier since removing the glass tops.

my tanks inhabitants looked alot better with the higher summer temps(81-84) in the winter it will drop to about (78-81). i think everything did better with the higher temps for me, but i look at it this way maybe it simulates a more natural environment for them, seasons so to speak.
