I have just installed a CPR "hang on back" refugium on my 90g Bowfront, I have done a bunch of research on the effectiveness of doing so. In all that research, some very respected individuals have all agreed that it is an excellent "upgrade" to just a trickle wet/dry system. Make sure you keep the light on the refugium 24/7 if possible. The whole package including light was under $175, I am sure you can make one yourself for much cheaper if you are handy. I guess I have no official word yet on the effectiveness, but wanted to chime in that I too have heard its an excellent addition to any filtration system.

I have a 55 up and running for 8 weeks. The filters are a 350 HOB and a 400 HOB both with biowheels. I built a cabinet right up to one end. Made it so a 20 gallon full of water would be the same water leave as the 55. I put a siffling hose from th55 to the 20. Started the siffling and got the water leave matched. Hung a small powerhead on the 20. Plumbed it to return to the 55. Filled it with chetto and copods and let her rip. If the power goes out all water stops until the power comes back on. A hood with a 50/50 bulb in it and its working like a charm. I also put a fire shrimp in it so the grand kids can watch
him.

There are tons of threads on here that describe how to build a refugium...TONS! It's really not that difficult, you just want to decide how big of a tank works best for you. The bigger, the better. For a 90, I'd recomend a 29 at least. If you can get something bigger in the space you want it in, you should try to. It's really not that difficult of a project to tackle, but there is a little science behind it. Matching 2 pumps is not a very reliable way to go about it, while it may work for some, eventually you'll have a flood from it. If one pump goes out and the other doesnt bammo! Do a little research here, search for fuges, sumps, etc. If you cant find what your looking for, one of us will be glad to help you along. The search tool here can be a little dificult to use sometimes. But nonetheless there are TONS of these allready on here. Heres a couple links to get you started.
