Identification needed Plz

Greetings...,
In setting up my new tank, I went out and purchased some live rock last night and today. I see that one piece has a nifty little "rider" on it. I guess it's an Anemone of some type. Maybe someone could Identify it for me? It's a light brown/Translucent tan color..whiteish tips and the arms almost looked somewhat stripped or ribbed with white. It has a yellowish mouth area. I fed my two Damsels and while stuff was whirring in the water it looked as though the Anemone was feeding itself with it's arms. That is, if it's an Anemone! Unfortunatly I don't have the lights or anything else set up for the little guy to probably live to long, but I thought I'd ask about it anyway...

It may possibly be an Aiptasia anenome or some other pest anenome. If so it is definelty not something you wanna keep for long. Do a search for Aiptasia and you will see why.

Thank you... I did the search and that looks like what I have! Wouldn't ya know, thought I was getting a cool freebie!! Just setting up and I'm already Killing stuff..on purpose! It's only about an inch or so in size and had I placed the rock another way I might have missed it. I'll look up the lemon Juice injection method and give it a whirl...

Thanks...I did read it all!! I did touch mine and it reacted quickly. I think that since it's a suspect, I'll get rid of it. I figure when my tank, and my education, is able to handle Anemones, I'll buy the ones I need and take care of them. For now I'm interested on just getting this baby cycled...correctly! I'm only on day four, and would rather not start out incubating or raising pests just yet..I'm sure I'll have plenty of time to work that end of the situation later... any problem tossing in a couple of peppermint shrimp right now? or should I just inject the sucker...

Boy, it looks alot like aptasia but not exactly. If it is, look up Joes Juice... it is the nuts for killing aptasia, that is what i use.

It is good to see that you are concerned about your tank and don't just take anyones advice and you study for yourself, that will get you far in this habit err... I mean Hobby. Anyway I had some aptasia and tried mixing and injecting kalk paste and they just spread, so I bought a few peppermints and they devoured it and I have not seen any since. It is up to you though some people have good luck with peps and others have bad. You will discover that nothing is ever an exact science in this hobby, but trial and error is the best way to learn. Also ask questions, questions and more questions. you will learn that even though some people get sarcastic and flame newbies
that there are no stupid questions except the one you don't ask. As you learned from me do your research a don't just take one members opinion. Unless their names are Thomas, Kip, bangguy, fshhub, or any other shark because usually they are the authority on everything fishy. even then though do the research. Sorry I gave the wrong diagnosis but everything will work out. Goo luck in your fishy endevours.

Definitely not an aiptasia. Looks like a type of majano anemone.
