Yes he was a squareback anthias.I would not recommend them except in very large systems.He liked to swim too much for my 75.
Then,he decided his reflection was another male...and started to battle with himself daily.He retreated to the back of the tank,where he refused to eat...even if I put food right near his head.
He wasted away and died .
RIP Mr. Pretty!
After he died his girlfriend 'Precious' took up the same habit...she did it so severely she busted her whole bottom jaw in half!I figured she was a goner too,but she recovered.You cannot even tell where the injury was.I still have her today.
I recommend Dispars or Bartlett's over Squarebacks.A supermale Bartlett's is a gorgeous fish.One male will do best either singly,or with several females.
