I just found a 75 gallon tank I'd like to replace my 55 with. How's the best/safest way to move the sand/rock/coral/fish into a new tank?

AHHH, come on. If your thinkin' upgrade at least make it worth the transfer. Why not a 125.

Understand.

The big problem is, if you really want a bigger size you'll eventually get it so, might as well work on it to start with. Just takes longer to set up.

I new I wanted to go huge and get a 8ft tank one day. So, insted of all the different upgrades I searched and found a used tank with cabnet, hood, sump/fuge and rr 240gal tank for 1500 dallors. Of course it is still outside on my porch until I can afford the electrician the put the new breaker in, the trim and paint to make the cabnets match my built ins, not even including rock, lights, ro/di unit, and new pump and plumbing. But it is lots of fun making the plans.

I agree, no point in upgrading in such a small amount. Thats alot of work to switch to a tank that's only 20 gallons bigger. Another thing you should think about is space. If the 75 is going to be the biggest you can have because of your space, then it might be worth it. If yall are planning on stayin in the same house for a while and you have room for a 125, I'd wait. JMHO though.

Get a 20g rubber made tub,HD or lowes.Transfer 15g of water to the tub and a heater and then move your live stock into itPlace the rock in a bucket with some tank water. You'll want to save as much of the water as possble.Make sure you have about 30g of premixed salt water on hand.Remove and save water from 55g.You're trying to make the 55g lighter.Move the 55g and set up your 75.Add the rocks, then the sand, then your old water and top off with new water, same sg and temp. Now move your livestock. You will basically have done a water change with the approx. 20g of new water.Fish shoukd be ok.Don't forget to put your heater, filter, thermometer and whatever else you use in the tank before the fishUse as much of the old water as possible.Good luck.
