If my star had a mind...I'd say he lost it

My starfish is acting REALLY bizare the last few days. Its a normal sand sifting sea star, but he is ALL over the place. Just a second ago I caught him on top of my biggest piece of live rock and he was just cruising around it. Then before he was crawling around the base of my Xenias. I am trying to figure out what gives. He is just hauling butt all over the tank now that he came down from the LR. All my water parameters are fine too. Maybe mating season or something?

My first thought as well. "Last act of a dying star" is what I remembered about starfish such as chocolate chips and sand sifters. When they are hungry, they move a round a lot. If there is available food where they are, and thier one purpose is, well, to eat, there is no need to move all over the place.

Dont know about the mateing thing but Ive had my SSSF for years and rarely see it leave the sand. When it does its only up the glass, never on the rocks. Most of the time I forget I have it because its always buried.

How big is your tank? I would agree that moving around a lot is often a sign of trying to "find new territory." How long have you had it?
