I can relate to what you are saying. I did put a 1/4 ply on the top part of the stand.....so the tank sits on the ply not the sharp points of the 2x4s so as not to create pressure points.

was it a pain to plumb in the corner overflows with them being close to the corner and having a wide wooden frame. i built a stand for a 180 and laid out the cross supports so i could have easy acess to plumb in an allglass rr tank that has the overflows set in from the ends. my corners are a little more narrow 1.75 in microlam but being able to use a perfecto tank i might be able to get a little better deal on the tank.

YES it actually was.... I litterally have NO room for adjustment.... I got really lucky that the tank fit on the stand I built. You got to remember that I built the stand from measurements I took of the tank...before it came to my house. SO my advise is ...if anybody is buying a used tank and building a stand proir to delievery..... Make sure your measurements are exact.

allglass for me than. i already got the exact location of the holes from someone on here and made sure they would be in the middle of a bay in the framing, i was offered a good deal for perfectos by someone near me but forget that my stand was planned on for allglass and that is what its gonna get

I think you need to add a door somewhere.... your just too limited on access under that stand....

thats a sweet build. the Skin idea is frikken great being able to pull that off and have unrestricted access, not to mention you put a door everywhere. good job.

Great stand Ifirefight!
I like the design MUCHO!
Just a note. You should really look at putting something on that canopy door. So it wont accidently get dropped and damage the tank. I remember seeing a post on here were someones did just that. Shattering the front glass. I have a couple things in mind, but cant tell you how they would actually apply to that particular hoods design. The air jack type things come to mind, like you use in an automobile or boat to keep a hatch from slamming. I realize it lays on top when open, but just concerned about when you're opening/closing it. Plus it'd be a SWEET little tweek to it.

Yes.. I also remember that post.......He dropped the lid and the pressure busted out the glass...... I am usually the person in charge of the tank....BUT....when I have to be at work, the wife is in charge..
so I have actually warned her of this exact problem, and made sure she read the actual post of the glass breaking. That is a great idea though....and I will look into it.

Looks smart. Beautiful work on the trim.
Let me ask this, I don't have a clue on building stands. Looks like a 6' or 8' tank? What supports the stand from leaning over if the side were to get an accidental push? What keeps the top and bottom of the 2"x4" fastening points from giving with over 1200# of water being tugged by gravity if the shell is not fastened to the frame? It looks like, if the bottom were fastened to the floor, it wouldn't take much to push on one end and stress the uprights enough to give way from the truss points.
Not my stand, but I would probably run a 2"x4" horazontaly along the back mid point fastened secruely to all uprights for that extra support.
