A week a go my LMB died...today when I got up I discovered my favorite fish was dead, my LN buttefly. I went to school came home sick and noticed my clowns weren't doing to well, my jawfish was fine which I just got. I went to get my test kits from the stand and they were wet. My filter is leaking
. I'm sick and everything is going wrong, this hobby is way to hard for a 15 year old
. Can anyone help. THe only thing it could be was I put in some shells from the beach my mom got for my jawfish but I boiled them in RO water for 30 minutes, i don't get it.

Youngster, I have to disagree with you on that being 15 the hobby is to hard to do for long time ago, I wasn't even 15 as yet and doing OK. It all depends on your tank size and bio load and as one other here makes huge waters changes on a large reef tank and is because of the feedings.
All you need to do is go about things in a very careful way with no rush to it and as well, you need to make an adjustment on your tanks bio load as well as feedings for by most, this hobby is trail and error.
For reading on any marine species not tells you everything in what not to do or what is best to do, at most anyway.
So don`t blame yourself for being only 15, you still a ways to go with much to learn so give it a chance and not look to go over kill with your tank(s).
For things go wrong a lot because you are doing things that is against it that you have so perfect tank. So go over your wrongs and make as many adjustments that you see be needed. And you might want to make a list here on all of what your doing and list them for comments from the other SWF members, Do not attempt this right now on your own without the assistance of others.

My filter is leaking
You need to stop the filter and tighten the hoses, not being able to see this I can only guess that this is what the problem may be

Do you have test kits to test the water..or can you take some to an LFS soon to have it tested ..then post the results? Turn off the filter so water is'nt running through it for now. What type of filter is it?

I've turned off the pumps, put the filter into a tupperware...turned off everything except a heater and power heads...I'll describe my set up
95gal FOWLR...by the way I have a horrible LFS
I have a UV sterilizer. a canister filter, and a 5-6in LS
Tanks been up since christmas...it cycled in 1 week and my LFS said to get your first fish (2 tank raised perc clowns). I got a cleaner shrimp a week later and the tnak was perfect. About 3 weeks after that I got a royal gramma. My LFS said your tank is ready and if you want you can get another fish, so I got a LMB and a LN buttefly. Everything was great. 5 days ago I got a blue spot jawfish ( 10weeks of allowance) and 2 days after that my LMB died ( really skinny) I couldn't find him after I took apart the LR (didn't take out any of the stuff touching the sand). I thought the crabs cleaned him up since I have close to 100. This morning I got up and the LN was dead. All my parameters are perfect while this whole thing is going on... Can I get some more advice and DME thanks for responding

IT's a nu-clear canister. I think theres a crack in it. I drained the filter and took out the filter media. I closed off connections to the filter so no more waters coming out :jumping: . I'm still stuck with no filter though. I'm running a PH and heater, I can't get to the fish store for another 3-4hrs will my tank be fine with this, it would suck for me to lose my live stock.

What has changed in the last few weeks?
Have you changed the fish food, has the fish food been tainted?
Whats the water temperature?
When was the last time you changed your light? (what kinda light is it?)
Whats the water quality like? (test it and post it)
Hows the O2 levels in the water?
Is the filter running properly? (once you fix the leak)
Is the filter media clean in that water can pass freely through it?.
Is there a big build up of 'gunge' in the filter?.
When was the last small water change?.
What are the fish symptoms.
Im new to Marine fish myself. But I started at 4 with gold fish, moved into Tropical fish at 12 and built a 15'x25'x15' Koi pond at the age of 15.
I have to say, the hardest part is starting the tank. Once its up and running properly. You just have to stay ontop of testing and correcting any small problems before they become major problems.

I've got a nu-clear, the only trouble I have with it is after I clean out the filter I have to make sure the top ring is pretty clean with no water and cc on it. What size pump are you running off of it? Have you filled it back up and tested the lines you say you think the water was coming from?

Nothing out of the ordinary...everything perfect. I changed the filter I would say 2 weeks ago. I've been adding LS bit by bit...nothing out of the ordinary

It's the filter which is leaking so I took it out of the loop. I just thought of a bright side on this. I wanted to ditch the buttefly so I could go reef, I loved him to much though, but now I can go with a reef.
