I'm back - with a broken leg

I just got back on here yesterday, after almost 2 months. My daughter & I were in a car accident on Dec. 4 (car was totalled). Fortunately, she just had bumps & bruises, but I have a fractured tibia plateau (very top of the bone right behind the knee). I had to be airlifted to a hospital near NYC, so I could be treated by an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in trauma. I had surgery Dec. 13 (I have a metal plate & 8 pins), and was finally released from the hospital Dec. 16. I just had my second follow-up visit with my surgeon Tues. It will be another 4 weeks before I can put weight on my leg, and 6 weeks before I can drive again.
However, physical therapy is going well. I am getting around much better than I was, and can finally start thinking about things besides doctor & physical therapy appointments, getting my 3 sets of exercises done each day, and let's see how far can I bend my knee today (even though, yes, I still have to do each of these).
Before the accident, I had just FINALLY made my decisions about what fish to add to my aquarium, and actually just ordered the new equipment I needed. All the stuff came in while I was in the hospital - my husband took the supplies & gave them to me for Christmas! I now have new test kits, a new return pump & a couple smaller ones for water flow, and a refractometer waiting for me, once I am back up on both my feet.
Hopefully in a couple more months, I can get back to playing with my aquarium & getting it back up to speed, so I can see some interesting fish swimming around!

me and my mom got in an accident about a year or two ago that totaled her new spider eclipse convertable. she hurt her neck and had to get a plate with 6 screws, and a piece of her hip cut out. i tore some ligements in my right upper arm, and had to wear a neck brace, and sling for about a month.
hope you and your daughter are ok, for some reason kids take acidents better than adults?, i've been in 3, and every one my mom got really hurt, and i wasn't nearly as bad.

Thank you for all your well wishes!

My daughter completely recovered in just several days. Yes, it goes to show you that kids recover than us adults. (one of the things we have to look forward to getting old!) Fortunately, my only injury was my knee. Things could have been much worse. My orthopedic surgeon says I will completely recover, even though it was a more sever break than your typical tibia plateau fracture (he also says it is a common injury). I somehow managed not to actually tear any ligaments; they were just stretched. Granted, things most likely would have been much better - IF I HAD BEEN WEARING MY SEATBELT!!!!
Yes, I definately learned my lesson on that one. I will NEVER get into a car again without one on!
Anyway, I'm happy to be back and starting to think about fish again (even though it will have to wait a couple more months).
