75 gallon tank going to go with 48" lights
figuring to make the hood 50" in length having about 3/4" of space on each side would that be too much space??

no, that's alright. my 48' german end cap VHO's fit in 49 3/8 ID with less than 1/2 inch on each side.

Make sure you have enough room for your end caps. If using VHO's with Ice Caps, that won't be enough space.
