I'm getting a new next door neighbor...

I could not be more disappointed with the situation. My next door neighbors appear to have just sold their house. They are great people... in their 50's with grown kids. They are very nice people to live next to and are sweet to my kids. It'll be sad to see them go.
I was hoping that we'd get a nice, young family to live next door to us. Seems reasonable as it is a 5 bedroom house backing up to a park. But for some reason an old lady decided to buy the house for her and her grown daughter.
Not trying to be an agist here but I hate living next to old ladies. In every house I've had, I've had an old lady living next to me. In this house, there is an old lady living across the street, (as an aside, she called the police on me a few months ago when my daughter hit the panic button on my car remote). Old women just seem to sit and watch their neighbors all day... they constantly ask for things, or criticize one thing or another. They are basically a pain in the *** to live next to.
Maybe I should sabotoge their inspection...
Not asking what I should do because I don't think there is much that I can do. It just sucks.

I grew up next to an old lady and you are very correct. Nosy, gossipy, whiny...
My mom called the house, just last week, couldn't get hold of my dad, so she called the old lady to make sure all was well.
The old lady says, "Yeah, he went in the house around seven, watched some tv, then went to bed about 9:15"
How would she KNOW that!!
She busted me for skipping school when I was a kid all the time.

I hope your new neighbor is better though.

You weren't pulling one of these on the front yawn when they were showing the house?
That should have had they running the other way....

Yeah, I agree, most older women are a pain. You never know though, sometimes it can work out okay. Stay positive. I have two older women that live next to me and they are both fabulous. Never bothersome and very sweet.

I just have no idea why an older lady would want to buy a 5 bedroom colonial with a park in the backyard.

Not to mention that I was told that she has a small, irritating dog. My dogs are going to freak out trying to eat her little mutt.

couple possible reasons:
1) she's going to starta brothel
2) she's going to have all her kids move back in, along with their grandkids and greatgrandkids
3) she's going to start a sweat shop and needs the extra bedrooms
4) she's going to start a daycare and have tons of kids there.
5) she's going to use the bedrooms as different drug labs
...

Next time she comes to the house, make sure she sees your dogs!! Maybe that'll keep her from moving in.
Talk about how the sewers flood when it rains.
Tell them to make sure they check for water damage cause water tends to settle in their yard!
Ask if they mind that your about to start a dog breeding business in your back yard!

I think all of these options sound better than having a nosy, gossiping, interfering, critical old lady chilling in her house all day and all night watching her neighbors.

Turn it back on them. make freinds with her not insincere though but actually introduce yourself to her and yadda yadda. but if and when these things start turn it around on her when she has company and so on go over and ask about them.
IE you see a car park in the driveway or a family get together when its over go over and ask about who was there and so on and anything else you noticed. beleive it or not most of them that I lived around quit after that they dont like others doing to them what they do to others. It is fun to watch their face though as they figure out what your doing is the same as they do to you LOL

I have an elderly next door neighbor, she is really nice, actually. I remember she used to keep an amazing garden, but now she can't exactly do that any more. She keeps to herself and never spies
. I talk to her once in a while and she is a very interesting person. The only complaint that I have is that sometimes we can hear her phone ring (no we don't live in a condo or complex...just a regular neighborhood). So it is the luck of the draw, just give her a chance.

Well I pay my own bills.I don't need someone tell me who I can have over my house.
I don't live in a condo so.Why should I care what she thinks if she don't like it quit looking over at my house. It has nothing to do with age it has to do with being nosey.I talk to alot of my neighbors but I would act like I didn't see her when she was outside after that.I would tell any of my neighbors the same thing if they would say something like this to me.
