agreed, what sized tank, do you want MH or T5's? LED's are an option. if it's a 48" tank and you wanted LED's (you want them but maybe can't afford them) look into 2 sets of MaxSpect LED's

I have a 40 gal tall tank and I run 4x32 watt High Output T5's, I like this setup. I can do all soft corals and LPS. I recently added a sump so i could get my nitrates down below 5 so I can do SPS. I added a green and a pink birdsnest SPS about 3 weeks ago and placed them at the top of my tank so theres only about 3"- 4" of water above them and they're already growing white tips out and seem to be doing great. I also have a false rose anemone and it moved it self to the bottom of my tank and is doing good, the clowns love it. Hope this helps.

Is this a 40G breeder tank? If so then you could go with the 1watt led's no problem. There are more and more people keeping SPS using 1watt led's with much success lately. I think anything over 18-24" deep is where the par begins to drop off to the point where you'll want to step up to the more high powered 3watt led fixtures (which are real expensive). Try looking into the Reef Koi fixtures. They are reasonably priced. The guy that makes them has been using them on his SPS frag tanks for several months with good success. I've been following some of his progress over on another site.

Im looking into LEDs because they seem to save more energy. But really im just looking into anything that is good and will be able to keep my coral and anemones alive and healthy.

Yes it was thank you. So i was thinking of getting a 405 fluval aquarium canister filter. Would that be enough if i plan of keeping about 5 fish in there and coral and anemones

I would say a leds might seem like a huge investment in the beginning, but will pay for themselves over time in several ways. Are you handy a DIY? I would opt for a sump on your setup...Not a fan of canisters, and your tank could be easily be drilled to accommodate a sump, and you could hide your skimmer and misc equipment in a sump and more filtering power with a sump setup IMHO.....

Try MAxSpect, i have friend who has frag tanks that use this system, it'a $579.99 for the he has on his frags but he grows everything and they have their own nice control panel. 2 will cover at least 60" with overlap. It's an awesome little set-up.

Hmmm, interesting about these MaxSpect. Never heard of them until now, and I have been researching LED's for a while. The company that seems to be in the lead for quality and best lighting is Aqua Illuminations. I also am a fan of Acan but think theAI's quality is far superior and its a little more than Acan. AI is not cheap but through all the research through professionals, it seems AI is where to go.

Rapidled sells DIY kits with all the components and use Cree 3w leds.....Reasonable price as well IMO
