probably 5k+
tank with stand and light 2k, 500-800 for rock, 600 lighting, 1k for filtration, 500 for misc stuff. 500+ to stock it with life....Thats kinda on the low side but a good low estimate

The cost really depends on what you want to do with the tank. Do you want a Fish Only system? Fish Only With Live Rock? Reef?
Reef will be the most expensive, because you will need very good lighting, more Live Rock, etc.
Is this tank you saw drilled for an overflow? Are you going to use a sump?
(Woops...just saw you said FOWLR)

Got my 300gal for $500 including sump.
Had to build a stand and canopy for it.
It's almost worth shelling out the Big Kash for a full stand, tank and canopy.
Almost.;)

Hmm, good question. Mostly about 3 hours a day and your wife and kids. Not to mention the endless trips to the lfs for products. It's an insane hobby that will suck your last penny out of your pocket. and bigger is always best. Now if only I could get my Jack Russell in a 200 gallon tank life would be a breeze.

WELCOME TO THE BOARD! I know where you can get a 180 gallon with stand hood and light set up for around $675 here in toledo.:)

I got my 200 from the LFS (was a display tank) for $750 with the stand. I refinished the stand and stained to match the canopy i made for it for under $100. I had it set up as a fesh FO cichlid tank at first for a total of $1100. After a while i decided to convert to salt and spent the most on lighting - about $1500 for 3 400watt MH and two Icecap660's for my VHOs. The only filtration i use is a BerlinXL skimmer i modified with that uses two pumps without the venturi. 180 lbs of LR and corals with fish, i guess around $4-5k is about right.

I wish I had the space for a 200g tank or even a 120g for that matter...then again I am happy with my 60g
