Hello all. I am new to fish salt water. I just picked up a 125 Gal fish tank.

I want to go with is Sharks. I have read and printed of the 101 steps that was written here in the forums. I have a Nikon D50 and will be taking alot of photos in the future.
Got the tank and everything you see in it for only $250. Not bad I say.
This is going to be a new adventure for me, I cant wait, I will be reading allot and trying to picking eveything up as I see.
thanks again!
Mike.

sorry no sharks they need 300+
+1...sorry mate, but you have to go BIG to do the shark thing. You have tons of options with that tank, but you will soon realize that a 125 is really not all that big. Just off the top of my head I am thinking one of the smaller sharks will still get about 3' long...imagine that trying to turn around in your 125...just won't work.

Tons of cool stuff...thinking you want more aggressive stuff since you were considering sharks. Triggers are great fish, puffers, eels, groupers, lionfish, wrasses are a few to start looking at...not all of these are compatible with one another, and most in these groups will pack a big bioload, so the number of fish will depend on size and bioload. I have a 120 aggressive and it currently has a
1-stars and stripes puffer
1-porcupine puffer
1-picasso trigger
1-domino damsel...lol, this fish is great at picking up the pieces of food when the puffers eat...they are extremely messy eaters.
My two puffers will outgrow this tank...you have to keep things like this in mind...I will eventually have to either upgrade or give these back to the LFS....I will upgrade
.

yes wal-mart sells it a filter is a must for a tank that size your looking at 15-20 gallons every week or 2 for water changes.(around 150$) you have to establish a nitrogen cycle fill your tank with saltwater get a refractometer
to get the nitrogen cycle going throw a frozen shrimp in there let it rot test your water first you will get amonia it kills fish then nitrite kills fish also then nitrate and the others go away now your ready for fish to bad this takes a bout a month
and ask us lots of questions we actually like to help

Some Wal-Marts do, mine doesn't for some reason. Any grocery store you can try and see if they have a water machine out front. Read the details on the machine, it'll tell you what type of filtration it uses. Almost all say Reverse Osmosis. You just gotta find where the closest machine is to you. You can always go to a water store if you cant find a machine.
FYI that live rock needs to be in some type of saltwater buckets with a heater and some kind of flow it you want it to remain live.
Start doing your research on what a new tank requires, there's plenty of info on here.

Sounds like you got a really sweet deal with that tank and all the stuff that came with it!
For that size tank, you will be needing a lot of RO/DI water and I would strongly recommend getting a RO/DI filter setup! With gas and time spent getting water somewhere else, it will not take long at all for that investment to pay off! Google Filter Guys
As for testers, get a refractometer! It is a must for SW and while more expensive than a cheapo hydrometer, will really help to insure that you end up w/a stable and healthy tank.
Check out SWF.com for supplies and livestock-they are not the only supplier out there, but are a pretty good company to deal with!
If you haven't heard this mantra before, and even if you have, it bears repeating: Patience is a virtue in this hobby. Expensive lessons are to be avoided, if at all possible, and this is a great place to learn from others. Not that I have ever had "an expensive lesson"

P.S. I lived in North Conway/Conway for 4 years-loved the country and the people in NH. Not enough traffic, pollution, and people for me so I moved back to Metro DC.
