I would talk to a lawyer anyway, after removing my bank account information from Paypal so they can't just take the money out of your account. Sounds like they are trying to intimidate you into just handing over the money.
Carefull they could sue you!
You agreed to the terms and conditions of paypall. Live and learn, life is full of costly lessons.

Was it with a checking account or a credit card? If it was with a credit card you can fight it. Not with PayPal, but the card company.

was on the phone with paypal for over 2 hours today. talked to supervisors, yelled, screamed, threatened to sue, threatened to go to CNN or FOX News, and they still said that according to the seller protection policy, since I didnt send it to a varified paypal address I am not covered and I owe the money to them. They also said that when I talk to my lawyer, I should provide them with paypals terms and conditions and it will prove to be a wasted effort.
NOW what do i do?! Is there anything I can do???
Change your bank account. There is no way I'd give the $$ back without them taking you to court. You acted in good faith. Might as well make it as hard as possible for them to get the money.

yeah, i asked them what would happen.... they said they could NOT go into my bank account and take the money. according to the terms and conditions its illegal for them to go in and take the money without my authorization. but what they WILL do is put it into collection, and put it on my credit report, where it will haunt me for the next 7 years.

The collectors will try to get the money for a few years then lay off, then around 6 1/2 years they will get real nasty trying to garnish your wages etc..
If they fail to collect it will be shown as a charge off on your credit report and stay there, then a few years later another company will come in and buy the debt for a few hundred dollars from the original collector and go after you again and once you pay the new collector one penny the debt starts all over again. Not fun.

All fighting with paypal aside, you have the address of shipment. I would make sure paypal can't take your money out, and tell them, I'm unable to refund the money at this time. Then tell them, we'll discuss it after the police have exhausted their options. Then I'd go do what I could to make sure the cops go after the dude. But them till they do something.

LOL, Let them do it. If all your other credit is good a PayPal dispute is going to be pretty easy to explain away.

Sounds like someone used their mother, father, grandparents, or friends paypal account and then sent it to their address. You really need to check with the post office first and then the police department where it was sent to. My husband is a cop and he says you can probably have them get a warrent to search the property where it was sent to. I would do it ASAP before they try and sell it again.

I know we would all like to think the police would go after the person who did this, But lets be honest they will more than likely do as little as possible. Like they say, "small potatoes"

But like they say the squeaky wheel gets oiled first. After all what are they going to do arrest you for bugging them about being robbed?

this same thing happened to me several years ago with paypal.
However i already moved the money from my paypal account before the person did a charge back/filed claim. I also didnt have a bank account setup because that is asking for trouble.
So paypal wanted the $1000 i removed from my account and i simply refused. They sent me collection letters and replied to them with my version, and had my lawyer friend draw up a response on letterhead to stop harrassing/annoying me with the matter.
I of course was banned from paypal, but they never got there money and they never sued me.
I simply opened up another account with paypal (since it is needed to buy from the bay) with a different email address a year later.

Something always bothered me with the topic and I figured it out. You weren't the victim of ID theft as your ID wasn't stolen. The poor

[hr]
that account was used was the victim and you were scammed by him. So yeah although your ID wasn't stolen you were dragged into this.
Seriously.. when they catch these guys why isn't it more than a slap on the wrist? It turns how many peoples lives upside down. If you still 20 bucks with a gun you go away for a long time but thousands with a few key strokes and oh -- it's not that bad.
