I'm really jealous...

I'm so envious that many of you live in Florida or other places where you have access to so much livestock! My LFS stinks, not to mention the other option in this town, a P**co. Thank goodness for the internet.

Yeah, I live in Indiana. I think I'm the coolest reefer in the great state
Just kidding, but I know what you mean...FL would make this hobby cooler.

The only perk about living next to this body of water is getting unmatched tank water quality. (ocean water) The rest we get like you most likely is IMPORTED form FIJI or somewhere in the South Pacific. I dont see ANYTHING in our local stores that is local MAYBE some LIVE SAND and Haitian Anemones

That's interesting. I do however live in Muncie...so there are no reef places anywhere. When I go to Indianapolis, there are 2 good reef places I've found. I am not really complaining so much about not being away from the ocean, I'm complaining about being in a crappy place for an expensive hobby.

Not this part of Florida. I have two lfs (not counting chain pet stores) within 10 minutes from me. One consistently has ich issues and other ailments, but they stock all the dry goods and foods I could possibly need. The other has amazing tanks, but limited livestock. However they are willing to order you anything you want...for a price of course lol which is usually way more than I'm wiling to spend. For any serious shopping I want to do, I need to take the hour drive to Gainesville, Tampa, Orlando or Daytona (depends which direction I want to drive. Either way it's a chore and pick or choose by the time you get there.

My NOT SO LFS is 90 miles away...so I figure 180 miles round trip, dinner out, shopping...etc....a $19.99 shipping fee is well worth it...Actually saves me money

HeeHee, yeah, but it's pretty darn cold on our beaches! Think wind and cold, cold rain.
A lot of people in your area do Pacific cold water tanks. They are pretty cool, they just lack a lot of the tropical nuance.
You should google it.

Wow, am I lucking out here or what? I can find just about anything I want from either one of the many local stores, or even better out of the local reefers tanks. The only thing I have a problem with is live rock price, so I ordered (from swf), but everything else I can get is the same price, or generally cheaper, as online vendors such as this.
Join your local reef club. The people in my reef club have amazing tanks, some of the best I have ever seen (plus I love watching their web cams at work). The best corals I have gotten are from locals, or these guys in Ohio....

Meowzer, have you had pretty good luck ordering online? I am thinking about doing that next time.

One to check out is Steve's tank. I'm not sure if I can post the link here but do a search for "Oregon reef" and you'll get it. He's lives up here as well and is an all around good guy.
There is also another forum (much smaller) in our neck o' the woods that does a lot of frag trading and that sort of thing. PM me if you want more details on it.

Yes, but to tell you the truth..and not because I am in their forum..lol..the best stuff has come from swf.com...customer service and everything has been great to me...I have placed 9 orders too.
I did try another place and the stuff was awful...most died, and they said it wasn't stuff that was guaranteed

For the money, quality, and service ...buy here

Yeah, I agree with this. The best part of being in Miami is that I don't have to worry about mixing water. I go to the LFS and pick up some natural water, then it is always ready for me when I need it.
I do find that the prices are better here also. So far it hasn't been worth it for me to order online.
