After 5 months and two major crashes in my tank, everything seems to be going smoothly for at least the past 9 weeks, but, since I've accustomed myself to doing weekly 5-10% water changes..I don't know what is REALLY needed..how often should I do a water change(if all levels are ok) and how much?Thank you for your advice.

What are you water parameters? I do at least 10% water change weekly, if not 15%. I find this to be less stressful on my tank than doing 1 major water change a month.

hi. i change water whenever.. actually since november, i've done one water change. 100 gallon reef w/ damsel, yellow angel, mandarin, maroon clown. approx 100 lbs. of live rock, 120 lbs southdown sand, 2 large leathers, and much mushrooms, buttons and other things, berlin h.o. skimmer. :) when my tank was set up previously w/ a mechanical filter, i was neglecting to change/clean the filter along w/ not doing regular water changes. <img src="graemlins//dead.gif" border="0" alt="[dead]" /> bad mistake. you may want to service your hot mag canister and see if that may help in preventing crashes. ;)

Its too bad you dont live in Jersey, The tank set up I have( from a guy who has a fish business that his show tank up for 16 years without a water change)eliminates water changes, Hes very knowledgeable and learned from his dad who experimented for many years on keeping saltwater tanks. The system they have is unbeatable. People out there probably dont or wont believe me, but the system WORKS. Maybe you need to move :) j/k. If you want email me and Ill give you his site to see the setup.
