Impulse buying

We have done it and we all have regretted it. The reason I'm writing this is because I just read a persons thread about his impulse buy of a mushroom and now he is regretting it. And now I will toot my own horn, because I have learned not to do this, a new rule to put in effect, If you didn't research it, don't buy it. You all know I've been wanting to add a angel fish to my tank, because of researching and the help from you all, I will not be.
I was in my LFS and there it was a blue line angel, I never saw one b4 it was beautiful. My eye grew larger my heart started to pump faster. I watched for a while it was perfect, nipping at rock swimming so gracefully, not a flaw on it.
Nope didn't buy it, because of my research I new that it wouldn't live a long and happy life in my tank.
So I say again: If you didn't research it, don't buy it.

Although just to clear things up... when I bought the mushroom in question, I didn't think that additional research was necessary since I thought I knew all there was about mushrooms... it just turned out that this particular mushroom has completely different needs than other mushrooms.
So I would like to take your advise even further... even if you think you've researched the animal you may impulse buy before... it never hurts to double check (especially if you are an iphone or android user) the exact specimen before handing over your money.

I was sorely tempted by a Koran once. It sucks, doesn't it? They are just so pretty.
Oh well.
It's a good idea to be as familiar with the different species of fish as you possibly be can, even the ones you don't have. Then when you encounter them, you already have a reasonable idea of what you're looking at. At a pet store near here, they had a Sweetlips, and the girl there proceded to tell me it was easy to care for and suitable for my 75 gallon tank. It was a pretty thing, but I knew better!

I can impulse buy most corals because I already know their care and requirements for the most part. I am already knowledgeable and familiar with most. However, my knowledge fish wise is lacking. Therefore, I always research and ask questions about a particular fish before I purchase.
New hobbyists should realize that it's not just a pretty new decoration - but a pet. Something that you have to take care of - and unlike a cat that is able to run up a tree away from a dog, fish and inverts alike are all trapped in the same box together and have to get along with each other no matter what!

Yes a Koran was my 2nd choice for a angel, but like the Queen I will just visit them at the Shed aquarium. As for the sweetlips don't you just hate that when you hear a sales person say sh** like that. I just saw one for sale at Petsmart you know what size tank that will end up in. I was in Petsmart because its the only place that still sells filter floss, give me a brake.

That was my down fall, I always threw it out the window ever time I saw a new fish. For all the fish I wanted to keep, I would need to turn my basement into a aquarium. LOL

Not a bad plan there...id like my basement to be a complete aquarium!lol
I know how you feel, id need to have 4 seperate tanks to have ALL the fish I want but since I can't (atleast right now) I /we have to settle for what is
attainable and do what is right for the community we are trying to create and keep in harmony.

Inorite? That's why we're already mentally planning our next two setups even though our 210 gal isn't filled yet...so many scorps, so few tanx, so little time...
