In MH lights, what determines the "blueness" of the light?

Does the "K" of the light determine how blue the Metal halide lights are? I know some are more blue and some more yellow and some more just pure white. How d you know by looking at a description which is which?

The higher the number (based on the Kelvin scale) the bluer the light. A 20,000K light is as blue as they come and 5,000K is very yellow. I would suggest either a 12,000K or 14,000K for optimal appearance.

airforce is right, however the blue can also help you in that it is more natural to have a bluer tint, for most of your critters arent surfcae fish, so deeper the water gets the bluer it is.. I run 400w 20,000K radium MH, with 2x54 T-5 actinic. everyone seems to be digging life...
