in need of info on open green brain

i took this pic just as the lights are coming on and do open brains attach them selfs to live rock? you can see the white piece that is going from the brain to the rock? should i move it to the sand bed? or ?

in doing some more reserch on them and not much out there that i can find ,this one seemed to have been removed from rock to start with the way the base looks its kind of a point shape and rough about 1 1/2" long them some other reading could this be one way they reproduce?
i hate to move it and rip the piece off too now
