In need of Southdown

Posting this in hopes someone willing to help me out will read it. I am still setting up a friend's 55 and substrate is one of the final additions. I have looked high and low for Southdown and/or Old Castle sand but to no avail. Here is my proposal......I will send a money order for the cost of 1 50# bag, shipping AND a $ bonus for your effort if anyone is willing to help me out. I've looked at many types of play sand but I really like the appearance of this Southdown sand. Hopefully there is an honest and willing person out here that will help me out.

Thanx guys :)

I'm considering doing it but do you know how much it will cost to ship a 50lb bag of sand? It's probably gonna cost alot, plus what can it go in, I mean the box would have to be extra strong. I mean I can get the sand and I want to help you out but do you think it is practical?

Good point....
I know the shipping cost would maybe make the normal person just use something else but the sand around here that I can buy is really not that great. The best I could find was "river sand" which looks fairly ok but the grain inconsistancy is horrible. The LS I already bought for her is waiting at my LFS pending the base layer of sand. Plus if it was a "rush" shipment, then it would cost alot more but since it's "dead" sand, hopefully not as much. I don't know, maybe someone has an idea I am not thinking of...but thank you for your interest in helping me out.

I know I read on a previous post of PureAragonite.com
since you are willing to pay for shipping and all. They will give you a quote and tell you how much it will cost.

I'd be willing to do it but shipping and the box alone will run close to $50 for one bag with USPS (they only accept up to 70 pounds a box) if you want to do more w/ UPS it'll cost near 100 bucks for shipping.
I've got the stuff at the local home depot for 1.25 a bag so that isn't a problem as long as they still have some stock (I don't think they order much come wintertime.. mostly a summer thing for kids playlots and such)
If you want to do it drop a line @ mcline3@comcast.net
I'll stop by the HD tomorrow and see if they have any
Cheers! :D

Listen..........Home Depot has it in the building section of every store within a 100 mile radius of my home. Its not in the garden center. Go to you Home Depot and ask for it. Its there.

I don't know where Moorehead is in Minnesota, but if isn't too far from Wisconsin, you could take a road trip to Wausau, WI. They sell southdown.
JP, yes, southdown is playsand, but so are a handfull of other silica base brands.

I went to the HD here and looked everywhere, I even printed out the bag picture posted here to show the employees there and nobody had a clue what it was. I called a friend of mine in Minneapolis and he went to his HD and same thing....nothing but playsand NON-southdown. Realy frustrating and I agree...50 bux just for shipping is insane (might as well go with LS at that cost).
The HD in Sioux Falls, SD has nothing even remotely similar to any sand called soutdown or old castle.
Moorhead is on the western border of Minnesota.....about 3 miles east of Fargo, ND.....a road trip to Wisconsin would be a haul but may end up with no choice.
Arghhhhhh lol

Shipping costs for that kind of weight is outrageous when you don't have some sort of bulk shipping discount or some other means of shipping the stuff... that is why I posted the shipping estimates :) (go on usps or ups website and double check for yourself! it is insane!)
I used to sell really heavy items via e-bay and people would always complain about my "ridiculous" shipping costs... but hey that is how much it cost me!
I really hope you find another alternative!
Good luck!

Someone had posted the sku on here a while ago. I ended up calling all the HD's in my area and asking them to go find it. Finally about the 3rd one found and had it in stock. (Others showed it on the computer but could not find it.) But yes way frustrating.
Other then that, I bought too much and have 2 50lb bags sitting at home, if anyone wants them they can have them.

Thanx for all the help guys...I figured with the shipping costs it would get pretty spendy so I ended up buying 4 25# bags of CaribSea Arag Alive. Should do the trick.
Thanx again for the help/offers :)
