In-Tank Overflow or Strainer...Need Op./Experiences

Hello Everyone,
I'm moving all the filtration from my 20 display to a rubbermaid sump (new 13 G garbage can.) I've just got a couple of questions.
1. If I have 3 ft. of head and I get a mag 500 pump, can I just use a simple strainer type bulkhead like this one (1") with a durso behind it? Or, do I need to build an in-tank overflow box out of acrylic and put the bulkhead toward the bottom of the tank to build up more head above the drain point? (Oh yeah, the bulkhead has to be come through the back of the tank)
2. I've read on here multiple times not to have ANY metal submersed in your system. And yet the magdrives have metal screws holding them together. Is this or has this been an issue for anyone?
Thanks for looking. By the way, the filtration is going to be my Coralife SS65 + a wet/dry with bioballs under filter floss + some carbon.
Thanks for looking and let me know if there's anything I missed.

Well?
I've ordered the strainer overflow and plan to put it at the top w/ a stand pipe behind the tank.
It's not too late for one of you knowledgable people to change my mind though.

Hey SignGuy,
I thought about using an overflow box, but they're just so freakin' big for a 20. I bought one off the bay for my new 45 gallon, but I just think it would look too bulky for a 20H.
Also, besides buying a used one, the cheapest I could find one was like 70 bucks online. It should only be about $25 for drilling the tank, $8 for the bulkhead and then maybe another $10 for the plumbing. So, if the strainer bulkhead works, I save about $30 and have an emptier looking tank.
To your question about Charlotte, yeah it seems pretty nice. I've only been here about 4 months now (for work.) But, I like the city and it doesn't seem nearly as backwards as Vidalia Ga where I lived for about a year and a half (also for work.)
Later,
JAM

no you need the drain near the top incase of a power failure. remember the same amount of water intering the tanl is the same amount eziting the tank
