inch / gallon rule.

I am soon getting a 125 and a 55 gal. sump / fuge. Since there is extra water in the sump / fuge can I get away with a total of 36" of fish, which is 1 inch per 5 gallons by adding the amount of water in the fuge / sump . Or can I still only have 25" of fish, 1 inch per fish with 125 gal, without counting the water in the refugium? i hope this makes since. thanks!

Hiya,
Yes, you can count the gallon's in the sump towards your inches of fish. However, remember, the main tank is only so long, so you don't want to over crowd it with fish that need a lot of swimming room.

Hiya,
I know that should be enough for a yellow tank. I'm not up on most of the other species of fish. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

After your tank has been up and running for a year, you might push that recommendation (perhaps to a maximum of 1 inch of fish per every 2 gallons).
However, remember that these recommendations are based on the usual adult length of your fish - not their current size.
