Incorperating Lace Rock

Im weeks away from incorperating 2 tanks.......... 1 is up and running I have a few coral and a few fish.....plus a whole cleaning crew. The 2nd tank I have nothing but live rock that has already been cycled, I even ghost feed it every 3 days or so. My question is: im using lace rock as a base for my foundation, do I make up a salt water bucket and leave the lace rock in that water until time to use it? I have no room to put it in with the rest of the live rock. All suggestions would be appreciated.

Lace rock is a light rock used to make a foundation for your reef lay out. That if placed right will become live rock over time.

never heard of it, where does it come from? man made? sounds like it could be lava rock / pummice which could be very bad for a tank

it is pummice and it not bad for your tank I've seen it done to many times.

pummice can very well be bad for a tank, lava rock is rich in nutrients , minerals and metallic ores. leaching can cause coral death/ poisoning and crazy algae blumes. i have read a few horror stories, while others seemed to be ok. i would just not use it personally, not worth it.

it sounds to me like he means base rock. which is the same rock as live rock, but has zero bacteria. and if that is what you mean, you need to find a way to let it cycle with the rest of the rock. not that it has die off, but the bacteria can go ahead and start to colonize on it.

I've used lace rock. Pretty much rinsed it real good, scrubbed it, and put it directly into the tank with no ill effects other than hair algae which I can't really prove was caused by the lace rock. Looks good and has great shapes, resembles live rock.
