Input needed on fish selection

I just finished cycling my 240 gallon tank. Currently the only 2 fish in the tank are a coral beauty, and a fiji damsel. I have in my 55 q-tank a hippo tang, white cheek tang, and porc puffer. All are about 3" in length, and are currently undergoing hypo. When completed they will be moved to the 240 as well. I was thinking that my next fish addition would be a pair of racoon butterfly's, then after that a larger angel of some sort. Would all this fish coexist without any problems? Anyone have any input on this selection?

STOP RIGHT THERE.........Doubt a tank that size can handle anymore fish...........sorry for the bad news..........
Maybe if your lucky (knock on wood) you could try a Flame angel. Such a beautiful fish with the right lighting.

This FO or FOWLR?
I am assuming FO not Reef.
Those are some big fish, but it might work with the right filtration.
IMO you would be topped out with those fish. The 1"/ 5gal. is only a rule of thumb. More has to do with the type of fish, for instance puffers are very messy and will add alot to the bioload.
It might work.....I have heard of heavier stocked tanks than that, not to say that is good, but I would suggest going slow and letting you tank tell you if that is too many by its parameters.
Putting so many fish in a newly cycled tank is risky, just so you know. I would not move the Q tank inhabitants all at one time.
good luck......240 gal., I am jealous.........MCF

One question, if the tank just finished cycling, then there probably isnt that much algea in the tank, so what is the coral beuty gonna eat? Plus angels are not the heardiest of fish and should only be placed into a mature tank of atleast 5-6 months.
just my .02

P.S. hope all works out well for you.

There is actually alot of algae in the tank, plus I feed the coral beauty frozen foods. I've had him for a long time. Most of the rock came from other tanks that I already had setup and running. In the display I have about 100 lbs. of LR, and in the sump/refugium I have about 200 lbs. of LR. This is going to be a FOWLR. I wasn't planning on adding all of the fish at one time. After I add the tangs, and puffer I'll wait until I think the tank is ready before I add the racoon butterfly's.

With that much bio-filtration....I would think you would be OK.
That is JMO though. Sounds like it would be a beautiful tank.
Hope it all works out.....how about some pics if you have them.

I'll post some pics once I get things going a little more. Here is a pic of the tank right after I set it up.

That is going too look very nice. Just don't them all at once and with good maintenance I think the bio load won't be too great. You will have too wait and see though. Do post more pics as you progress.

You are going to have a beautiful tank! I'm not sure about the fish load, lot's of big fish and big fish mess. Since you have the coral beauty already in there and even though the lr has been used there is not that much of it. I would supplement the coral beauty with nori strips or seaweed select, mine loves it. JMO

I originally didn't put that much LR in the main display because I wanted to leave plenty of open swimming room. Now I'm thinking that I might add another 100 lbs. to the display. There is about a 100 lbs. in the display right now. What do you all think? Should I add more LR to the display, or leave the space for swimming room?

StacyT - sounds like you are going the way of a lot of us.....a nice big tank with nice big fish and plenty of swimming room......need a little live rock......need a little more live rock.......oh maybe 100lbs or so.....then it'll be...hmmmm that 200 lbs of lr looks kind of like a reef.......might need some corals in there, some more lr, some live sand would really help....... next thing we know your spending all your time in the reef forum:D

Wrassecal,
I have another 240 that I'm currently working on getting in place. I'm going to knock out part of a wall, and use it as a room divider. I should have this tank up, running, and cycled in a couple of months. I plan on making it my reef tank.:D

I just want 1 larger angel. From what I've read they can become very aggressive, and I don't think 2 in a tank would be a good idea.

A freind of mine owns a chain of pet stores. We dive together. I do some work for some guys that manufacture dive gear, and they give me whatever dive gear I need. So I also get my buddies dive gear, and he gives me whatever I need as far as supplies, and livestock. Works out well for all of us.
