MAN the darn gnats/biting flies are out early this year!!! I thought i had removed their spawning ground by clearing out 400 sq ft of brush, but i just got ran inside by a swarm of them :( this is not going to be fun doing yardwork if they are out already.

problem is where should i spray anything... i was working under a pine who's lowest branches are 15' up picking up pine needles (so i'm not too too disappointed about coming in...) and i was under a birch cutting off stray branches. The darn things just came out right away. I know i'm sweet and all....

i have water in the back yard, but over an acre away and a small stream, not any standing water.
i'd prefer mosquitoes to these things.

thats where they are coming from the dont need standing water but moisture in general the muddy banks of a stream has more than enough for them to breed.

deet is a repellent that you spray on yourself. its the only thinmg that really works to keep them off you. "bens" insect reppellent is the only one I know of that has it.

If you feel like taking up another hobby you could always get yourself some chickens. They will eat will eat all kinds of insects-mosquitos, ants, gnats etc. We haven't had a mosquito bite in 3 years. We do however have tons of chicken poop. No prob there. Just compost it.
