Installing a UV Question

Hey Jump....
How are ya bud? Hope fine of course...
Here is how I have it set-up....
Aquanetics 25 watt UV sterilizer w/a Mag-Drive #2 (250 gph)
Mag-Drive in sump - 3/4" tubing out to UV - thru UV -
3/4" tubing returning back to sump (returning next to return pump
to tank)....
If you decide to purchase an Aquanetics or any other brand,
just make sure you get one with a quartz sleeve as this will
make it alot easier to change out the bulb...I have the regular
model as I did not know the difference between the two
when I bought it....
Need any more info....just let me know...

Hey ROCK, long time. Hope all is well your end as well. Things are cool here.
I've been contemplating a UV filter for my aggressive tank. Sounds like a straight forward setup to hear you tell it. Of course you fixed me on my Kent Nautilus as well. Great skimmer once you get it tuned.
Do you find the UV helps out? Or is it one of those "just to be safe" things?

Hey Jump...
Glad to hear all is well....everyone is good here also,thanks.....
I "think" it helps out as all my fish are "clean" and I
really havent had any problems, coupled with the idea
of "just to be safe", I feel it is a wise investment as
I always had one on my tank. I dont use one on my
sons reef tank, only on our (Fish Only)125 tank...
Unfortunately, the only thing that it doesnt help with, is against
Cyano bacteria, and now my 125 is loaded with it and
Ive tried numerous things to get rid of it, however, with
no success.
I have a regular double strip light on there with regular
flouresants and the guy at the LFS told me to change the
bulbs to actinic and 10,000k and it would get rid of it, but
I dont know if that will do it. Do you?

Great ROCK, glad all is well.
I don't have a cyano problem (knock on wood) in my 125 at all. The only water movement I have is the twin returns from the mag 7. My fish keep pretty busy though and my eels and red coris keep the sand pretty mixed up. Also have a tomato clown that fans the sand around alot. I don't know if that helps or not.
I've had cyano in my reef tank a couple of times in the last year. I've used Ultra Life's "Red Slime Remover" both times. It's like 10 buck for small vile of this stuff and you don't use much. I'm not a "chemical guy" by nature, but this stuff rocks. A couple days after putting it in the tank the cyano is GONE.
Of course you still need to look at the source of the problem. The first time my lights needed replacing and the cyano didn't come back. Then I had a circulation problem in the back of the tank. Added a ph and now that problem is solved. 4 months cyano free.
I'd take a look at your lighting. I'm running 4 four foot no's 3 10k and 1 actinic. Still looks dull compared to reef but ok for now. You may have bulbs that are out of spectrum.

Thanks for the help....I am going to change out the
bulbs....2-10,000k and 2-actinics....hopefully that will
do the trick....my son and I are going to power wash
the dead corals as they are covered in cyano and
hopefully that will help remove the majority of it and
then I will add that Ultralife "red slime remover"....
