Installing new carpet.? fishtanks

Hi,
I want new carpet for my "fish room" , I have 3 in this room.. a 75 reef, 29 BF seahorse tank and 46BF cichlid tank... OK, well I think moving the 2 smaller ones will be ok BUT.. how on earth do I move the 75 reef tank without killing everthing?
My though is.. get BIG rubbermaid buckets, like 25 gallons and move the water to them and sit the corals and fish into one and the LR into the other...the put a PH and heater in each.. What do I do with my DBS? Wont it mess up all the life and stuff in it? Or will it be OK I dont think I can move the tank with the sand in it, not only am I worried about it breaking BUT it will be too heavy, I have 100 lbs of sand in there... I suppose if i think of this positivly instead of dreading it, it wont bug me so much..A good tank cleaning..LOL
Now, after breaking it down.. how long will be safe to leave it broken down? Will one day be OK? I would like to break it down the night before (in case of problems) and set it back up when they are done installing the carpet... So then.. I add all the sand back some water, then arrange the rock again? Then all the water and pop fish back in?
Any suggestions will help!
Thanking you kindly, kim

My suggestion is to skip the carpet! I have carpet in my "fish rooms" and let me tell you what a royal pain in the neck it is when the inevitable happens and you have a flood! I had them install tile directly underneath the tanks, but carpet comes right up to it. I am currently drying out the carpet from the last flood which occured on Sunday (my birthday). Maybe you can tile your fish room instead of carpet. It'll save you much aggravation and possibly even save you from divorce! :D
P.S. When my tanks were all moved last summer, I paid the owner of my LFS and 5 of his strongest employees to move them for me. They left the DSB intact on all tanks, but removed the fish, corals, liverock, water and so forth. Heavy son of a guns, but they did it!

Good thought BUT i already have carpet so even if I were to tile the room... I have to MOVE the carpet.. HAHA
Always smething! Grrrrrrrr
Thanking you kindly, Kim

Put your sand in buckets of their own with water from the tank just to cover the top of the sand...wouldnt recommend this for any lengthy periods of time though. It should be similar to when you buy live sand, it is packed in a bag with some water (from local purchases), and the life within survives.

My vote would be to leave the sand bed intact and as undisturbed as possible. Find 10 of your strongest friends to move the tank (along with the stand for support). Offer them plenty of pizza and soda's (well okay...maybe beer) for a job well done! :D
P.S. Beer to be opened only AFTER said tank is moved! Less chance of mishap that way!!

I moved two tanks (135 & 55) when my wife insisted on new carpet. Took the opportunity to have some modification made to the 135 at the same time. LFS owner came over and we emptied the water into provided tubs. Caught the fish, removed the LR. Removed the substrate. LFS took tank back to shop and made modifications, while carpet was being installed. LFS returned tank 3 hours later and we set it back up. Plan ahead so that everything is in place and ready to go. HTH

:D Pheonix: Are ou offering to do it for beer??? LO Kiddin.......
I will PLAN ahead just like you siad wolf. How much did the LFS charge you (if I may ask).. My LFS guy does service accoun ts (he does 75 now) and he did say let him know when I plan on doin gthis and he would get guys to help.. I think I should go this way!!! As I said in my last post, I will use this opportunity to make some changes to the system...
Does anyone know If a bigger tank will fit on my 75G stand? I would think a taller tank with the same dimensions must be available...Good time to upgrade..... If I do, I am in Mass... anyone want a 75G??? =) =) I have NO ROOM for another big tank.. I have 5 already!!!
Thanking you kindly. Kim ;)

If it is a standard 75...a 90 should be only like 5-6 inches taller...maintaining the 48x18 base.
Also, moving the tank with the sand in it could bring risk of fracturing the bottom glass...as well as putting undo stress on the seams of the tank.

If you want an even bigger tank than the 90 gallon, 110 gallons fit the stand. I have only seen one for sale before though at a LFS (pretty good deal for entire setup too)
