Is it ok to switch from IO to Oceanic salt?
My tank 5years old it was set up on IO and used ever since.
I recall reading somewhere that you can't switch between synthetic salt and natural salt.

I would do a mix for the first couple changes, especially if you have SPS. Oceanic is much higher in Calcium and Alk than IO is. do a 50/50 mix (it's actually whjat I use all the time) for a few water changes and then completely make the change over to Oceanic.

unless you are doing huge water changes you are already only introducing the new salt mix in small proportions. If you do 20% changes then 80% of your water is still the same old IO mix you've been using. I think thats a slow enough transition.

Sure. A 100% common sense answer. But to be picky, the 2nd change will only be 76% old water, and so on. ( I sound like my 10 yr old daughter,) Who ever asks a dealer what kind of salt they use?

I made the switch from IO directly to Oceanic and didn;t experience any problems. I was doing 15g water changes on a 75g tank.
