Can you file a broken tank on insurance, was moving in my new/used 225 and slipped off the dolly and broke the bottom glass, does anyone know if I can file it on insurance. I have Nation Wide.
Now on the other hand the tank has 3/4 glass can i use 1/2 inch on the bottom and where can i get the frame that goes around the tank.
Thanks for any help

Well first you might want to check what your deductable is. And decide what to do from there

Ironically, I was looking at my homeowners insurance policy over the weekend and it specifically said that they do not cover "exotic" fish tanks.
I called my agent and he told me that they have lost major amounts of money by having to replace entire tanks and their inhabitants because of shorts in the plugs, disease outbreaks, power outages for long period of times, etc.
Whether or not they would actually cover the tank? If your deductible is more than the tank it wouldn't be worth it. However, you could claim that the tank was an antique glass showcase that was imported from Europe and is used strictly for displaying family heirlooms and see what that gets you!

I had that thought too, but I personally think its too late. IF you insured it BEFORE the incident than maybe. But since its not on the policy you may have to take the losses. Not sure though, I worked for an insurance company, and that never came up, but I did see peeps insure jewlery, fur coats, paintings, etc, and again that was already insured. cant hurt to try though.

I'm an insurance agent and I would weigh the value of the tank vs the deductible. If you have a 500 deductible and a new tank would be 700. It's not worth filing. Not only would you have to shoulder most of the money yourself but it is also a strike on your insurance. It counts as an incident and too many incidents and the company may not renew your policy. If this happens you may also have trouble finding other homeowners insurance as well. My advice to you is suck it up and pay for it out of pocket.

Or you could just say someone broke into your house and smashed everything. JK no really I did have a friend who was broke into and they threw a rock throught his 125 gallon tank.

I would pay it out of pocket just to keep your rating good.As far as houshold insurance costs go it is relatively inexpensive to replace and as was already said if you have a deductible you'll be paying most of it anyway. Sucks though:(
