biology extra credit- use internet resources to find out about the niche of your favorite organism. write an essay describing this organisms role in an ecosystem. include a description of the organisms fundamental niche and realized niche.
can anyone think of a totally awesome "organism" i could write about? i dont really care what it is i just cant think of anything very cool... i was thinking maybe coralline algae because it is overlooked by a lot of people and i think there would be a lot to write about it... but i dont think anyone would really care... or think it could possibly be anyones "favorite organism". LOL. but yeah thanks. if you can think of anything interesting let me know.
hmm, maybe angler fish?

How about Zoo or Phyto Plankton?
They feed the world's largest animals (blue whales) and some of the smallest (corals).

There are so many. Maybe Pycnogonidas (Sea Spiders) or if you are allowed to do extinct species try Eurypteridas (giant sea scorpions..)

well strep throat sucks, so im chillin at home today. i was thinkin i might do these, did anyone see the episode of blue planet where they talked about those gaint fan worms that live in the sulfer vents? aparently they are like the first life form found that gets 0% of its energy from the sun. so thats pretty neat.

Yep that and the fact that they survive around those vents that exceed temperatures of 700*F and spill poisionus gasses every time they vent. I thought that was amazing.

Just for the record Archaeobacteria were getting 0% of their energy from the sun BILLIONS of years before fan worms ever existed, or mulicellular animals for that matter. Google Archaeobacteria, there are some amazing species that live in water with a pH as low as 0 or as high as 11, sg as high as 1.230, temps over 75C, or below 0. One species called Thermoplasma acidophila lives in coal deposits with a pH of 0.5 and a temp of 66C. No wonder Achaeobacteria are called "extremophiles".
