Internal Overflow Box

I got my tanks drilled about 3 inches from the bottom and about 3 inches from the side on the back side of the tank. Overflows were expensive. I think the pvc idea is pretty good. I would use it if I had to do it again.

sort of...... I got the idea that the 90 degree was at the top of the tank..... That would make more since.....
Agree
, and thats the way we did it ~ although probably the only difference is in how much pvc pipe you end up using on top of the elbow vs. outside the tank. I'll try and get you a picture posted over the weekend or early next week. Having trouble find the time ~ too dang many other things going on.

I put the hole at the bottom in the picture to show what scopus tang was talking about. He said that if you wanted to do a quick water change, you could, by merely twisting the pvc pipe to the right and having the water drain into a 5 gallon bucket for waste.
The idea of having a ball valve is to control the amount of flow in your tank. It's not always best to have resistance on your pumps, because it can shorten the life of them and create excess heat in your tank.
I have six 30 gallon tanks that have two 1" bulkheads in the back near the top. They work perfectly.

If you want some good info on both internal overflow boxes and drilling your tank, you can check out glass-holes dot com. They have all of what you are looking for as well as videos of how to do it. I got referred to them when my LFS refused to drill a tank for me because I wouldnt buy a complete salt water set up from them.

the concept looks good and im thinking about purchasing either the 700 or 1500 kit but hole saws for $12????? cheapest ive seen are at least $60 for a hole saw, im a bit nervous.

I ordered the 700 Kit for my 40 Gal Breeder. The guy who referred me brought hi box in and it seemed decent. As far as the saw goes, it works fine. He had no issues cutting the holes, although he said it is nervewrecking to listen to it grind through the glass. If you have questions about your tank and equipment you can call and ask mike and he is extremely helpful.

I havent received mine yet (hopefully friday). I ordered the 700 Kit as well as the return locline kit as well. The guy I know who bought one is very happy with it. He said that cutting the glass is easy as pie, just stressfull as it grinds through. The videos on the site show how to do it pretty clearly as well as give an idea of time to cut it.

You can't drill the bottom of your tank! The bottom of aqariums are always tempered glass, and trying to drill them results in shattered tank
. Thats why we said to drill your holes in the back wall of the tank.
Ok first off some tanks have Tempered bottoms and some don't. Not all tanks have Tempered Glass and you should check with your tanks maker to find out. There is a way to find out if your tank has a tempered bottom though so search around the net.
I my self would not drill a tank in the bottom. If your bulkhead goes bad or if you get a leak it can become a big problem. I would always go through the back of the tank. This way to you don't have to worry if your tank is Tempered or not.
