Internal Overflow?

Jumping in late in the thread here. Is the idea of two different sized stand pipes supposed to be somewhat similar to the bean animal set up in that the shorter stand pipe actually acts as a siphon style drain and the taller one is more like a back up?

That's how I was taking it Corey.....But then after I looked at the drawing again you can see the longer/taller stand pipe is feeding the skimmer portion. I don't think the water would reach the taller stand pipe, because the lower 1 would all but be a full siphon. If you did get water to the taller 1 it would barely be a trickle.......
I don't think putting 2 stand pipes in an overflow box would eat up anymore room if done with the right size plumbing. How big is your overflow?

I have yet to make it! This is how they suggest i do it though...correct the shorter SP would be fully submerged and the taller one would be getting less flow! I think ill be going with 1" or 11/4" PVC!

Depending on your hardware store 1" might be easier to find all the parts you want....My Lowes here is poor in the 1 1/4" and HD is horrible period when it comes to plumbing....Honestly I don't understand the whole concept of making them shorter taller.....A simple valve as in BeanAnimals design would work. Are you sure that it's going to provide enough water/flow to the skimmer??? That is my big question with the design.....

Dude you really don't want to be drilling the bottom then. Who the heck gave you the advise of you won't know unless you try?

stupid high end fish store!!!!! Is there anyway i can see if its tempered? Also is it just the bottom u think? I could always go the more traditional way of bulkhead in the rear! LOL "bulkhead in the rear"....

That's funny!!!!! If it's tempered even a glass shop won't touch it....Tempered bottom tanks you see with holes drilled in them were done before the glass was tempered. You could attempt to drill it, but I'd almost bet my life not more the 1 minute into it you'll think you just had an out of body experience......It will explode into a zillion pieces......I made a terrible mistake years ago playing around not knowing the glass was tempered and all was fine, and BAM!!!!!! It scared the you know what out of me, and more importantly I was lucky......Glass every where....Could have been bad not wearing safety glasses or anything.....
I have heard you could tell using polarized sunglasses, but not 100% sure on the procedure though.....
