Internet Scam Advice

Ok so my wife does some painting. Anyway, we've setup a website, and been doing some art shows. And have had some interest. Well anyway today we got an out of the blue email asking about our "product" and our website, then asked if we accepted Credit Cards. So we asked how they'd heard about us, and directed them to our website.
Today, we got a response. She wanted to order a couple of pieces, wants size and weight info for shipping, and that she has a shipping company that will come and pick em up. She left an address, and a phone number. I can find the street in Thialand, that matches the city and state. I haven't bothered to call the number...
So does it sound real or fake?
Also how would you procede, I'm thinking if I could get a ccd number, I could call visa or MC?

Hello Kimberly,
I am curious as to how you heard about me, and got this email? It is not the email I usually use for my art product sales.
My website is amybomarart.com. Please let me know which paintings you are interested in, and also be aware that some of the originals have prints available upon request. Credit card payment is fine, I will request for safety you give it to me over the phone. After knowing which pieces you are interested in, I can tell you the shipping charges for the items. Full payment must be confirmed before shipping begins.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Amy

I mean, you could take the order and get payment then ship. After you get paid its up to her shipping company and you dont have to worry

I tell overseas customers that I do not take credit cards for out of the country orders. Mail me a check or money order, and once it has fully cleared the bank, your order will ship.
Credit card accounts can be verified, but they are disputable. If/when disputed, you will be the first one out of the money, but they already have the product.

lol, I just wonder if I let this shipping company come to my house, they'll be shipping everything in my house to Thialand not just those 2 paintings...

There is really absolutely no way to ensure the charges don't get disputed in this situation. It would be impossible.
All I'm waiting for now is a request to send us more than needed, and asking us to transfer it to their people somewhere else...

Be careful with this one. See if your bank can verify the credit card number to the name and address. You will know its a scam if she wants to OVERPAY you (to include the shipping charges).

Thanks for posting this. I make high end jewellery and also received this email. I did not respond. Most valid inquiries will always name what caught their eye then inquire about how to purchase. This email is in the exact same format as 20 others I have received. If they are truly interested, they will email you again. The advice to get a money order/ bank draft is the best advice I know. Good luck

I revd an e-mail from a woman from Thailand, named Kimberly Tuton claiming she was interested in purchasing three of my handmade leather bags totaling $2520. She asked nothing about them. She said she would provide a credit card and take care of the shipping through her own agent who would pick up the goods at my studio. I responded, gave her the pricing and she responded back "she would like me to do her a favor" and charge the shipping costs to , to her credit card(totaling over $1800), deposited into my account and then pay her agent the money for shipping with our check. I e-mailed back that I can not get involved in the shipping arrangements, but would now need a certified bank check for the $2520 for the three bags before I could ship. Unfortunstely, as much as I would like the sale, I relaize this is another dirtbag that is trying to scam anyone willing to take the bait.
Does anyone know how I could bring this activity to the light of authorities? Please let me know, and I will inform as to where this ends up.

Someone posted links further up in the thread. You can report it there. I didn't just because all their language pointed towards being victimized. And well, I work 70 hours a week. And I'm sure they get slammed with scams. It isn't like they'll do something with someone who didn't actually lose money. They can't actually charge them for trying to scam people...
