Introducing a new anenome

When introducing a new anemone do you turn off the power heads? I put mine in and he is being blown around. I turned them off so he can move on his own. Should i turn them back on?

Yep. Turn them on and leave them on, but just watch to make sure he doesn't get sucked into them...
If he's cruisin' (and not a condy) then he is prolly lookin' for a good light/good current spot to settle in...

He isnt cruisin though its like hes gettin blown uncontrollably. should i turn them back on anyway maybe position them more towards the top so he doesnt get caught in the current so bad?

No no, it may take him days to find a spot...
Mine took almost 2 weeks. It wasn't until I seriously upgraded my lights that he finally found a resting spot...
He needs current, usually a pretty good amount of it. But at the same time, are your intakes protected?? Cause if not then you risk him getting sucked in...

i dont have anything extra on my intakes other than what came on them. What could i use to cover them that i might have in my house already? Also you said i should just wait till morning to turn the lights one right?

Is it normal for them to just get blown around through the water? It seems really weird to me and i want to be assured this is ok. Does this happen to everyone? I am worried about it. Please respond and thanks for the help

When my anemone finally found it's resting place he was dead in front of a maxijet 900... Bout 6 inches from it! I changed out the MJ to a 600 to reduce the flow a little...
He will expand and contract as he wants more or less flow. If he looks like he's being blasted to bad you can try raising the PH an inch or so and see if your anemone lifts up to the current. If not then leave it there and it'll be a little less for him.
Sorry, I missed that you said he wasn't cruisin'.
And yeah, I'd leave the lights off for now... Turn them on in the morning, as usual...

As of now i raised the power head and turned it down a bit. He is unattached and just being blwon around the tank. He is tumbling and then will grab for a minute then tumble again. Even float around the water until he hits ground again. Is that normal? Is he just waiting till he eventually ends up in a place he likes unwillingly?

What kind of anemone is it?? Did he let go after you raised the PH or was he not attached at that point??

It is a Rose Bubble Tip Anemone. I just put him in and set him down on the sand bed. He was never attached.I was watching him and it looked like he started to move then was caught in the current and got blown around. When he hits the rock he grabs on for a minute then eventually gets blown away again. Right now he is staying put on the sand bed but im sure he'll start blowing again. My question is, Is it normal for an anemone to get blown around when not attached to anything such as when he is first introduced. He has only been i the tank for about 2 hours at the most. Thanks

put it on a rock and hold it there for acouple of minutes or until it attaches itself...then it will be able to move around where it wants to. If i remember correctly they dont like being in the sand bed but i could be wrong.

So i put my new anemone in yesterday and he floated around for awile and now found a spot in the back left corner of the tank. He has been there all night till morning now. First, i dont like that spot, i want him on a rock. Second, dont you think that deep wont be enough light for him? He is nice colored and doesnt look pale. Can i move him onto a rock like madman said? I would like to try that. thanks

I just tried to move him and he is really stuck in that corner. How do i disconnect him from there? Do i just have to try harder? They seem very fragile.

do not rip the anenome off its spot, you will damage its foot.
what i did to move mine is grab a powerhead, point it directly at its foot, then slowly rub it. between the increase in water pressure and the agitation of the foot, it will come off.
i put mine on a rock, then watch it as it moves, instead of letting it float around.

I put him on a rock and he has been there for hours now. Here he is. Let me know what you think. If he looks healthy or not. He looks a little pale in the pics though i think

How do you "place" them anywhere? without getting stung I mean? What is the best method for placing them without harming them?
