I don't know a whole lot about inverts, but thought I'd tell ya what I do. First, only get ones that you Know are reef safe, if your going to have corals. I have seen a few tanks with 1 single bad crab, and tore just about all their shrooms to pieces. Blue legged/(footed?) crabs, cerith snails, astrea snails, and I THINK sally lightfoot, emerald crabs, scarlet legged crabs.

Here's what I've got in my 30 gallon tall. Five trochus snails, 7 astrea snails, 5 cerith snails, 5 nassaurius snails, 1 black brittle starfish, 1 serpet starfish, 1 fighting conch, 2 peppermint shrimp, 1 fire shrimp, 1 pistol shrimp, 1 emerald crab, 5 hawaiian zebra hermits, 7 blue leg hermits, 7 red leg hermits, and 5 scarlet hermits. They all function well together.

I would recomend staying away from Green Brittle star fish cause I had one in my old tank and had to remove him cause he was agroing the other fish.
