Can some one tell me is there a difference between iodine and iodide.
In a catalog KENT advertised a product as iodine but on the bottle it said iodide. Is it a typo or what?

Perhaps I should elaborate. lol
You see, iodine does not occur naturally.
That's like saying that you are going to supplement your tank with sodium. It seems like a good idea. I mean tanks need salt and since a salt molecule is Sodium chloride (hey look chloride-isn't that ionic?), why not throw in some sodium?
Well it wouldn't be bloody smart to do that, now would it? Sodium will react violently with water since it is not a pure naturally occurring element.
So basically what I'm trying to say is that you have iodide but it would not be inappropriate to say things like, "Your coral will appreciate iodine supplements."
If you think about it, what is iodide? It is iodine, but with a charge.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, it isn't a big deal lol.

Iodide is a bio-available iodine. There are other types of iodine that are antiseptic you should not mistake one for the other or bad things can happen. The antiseptic iodine form is used in dip treatments. Iodide is use to supplement for growth of corals and algae.
