Iodine Overdose

The margin between a safe dose of Lugol's iodine and a toxic dose can be pretty thin - sometimes only a matter of a few drops difference. Iodine is not especially toxic to tissues, but is a potent irritant, so there would be eye irritation, digestive upset, etc. You might also worry about the antibacterial actions of iodine at high concentrations - it might kill the nitrifying bacteria that grew during the cycle break-in. My basic rule of thumb for water supplements - do not add supplement unless you have the appropriate test kit and can verify the levels. Otherwise, this becomes just another expensive way to kill fish.

with that stuff. i ussually under dose. u kno 1 drop for every 50 gallons. i have a 125+20 gal sump so i jus dose 3 drops. directions say 1 for every 25. that stuff isnt something to mess with. u should just use the less concentrated version. i like to alternate. if u overdosed...well just use ur imagination.

well I was using iodine to help with some fish lymp and it well but instead of doing a drop at a time the whole drooper went besrek. The next day the water was way cloudy and my fish were in distress I did a 40% water change the ammonia was off the charts. Nitrites were 0 > now fish all dead in one day.Except for a zebra eel and lionfish that I cant see cause the tank is so cloudy.Dont know what else to do

use ammonia detox to break the iodine down.

When in doubt, change more water. Also, add Amquel Plus to detoxify nitrogenous wastes. Some carbon filtration wouldn't hurt either. You probably are going to have to cycle again.
