really? then you need to open your eyes. First off it's called sarcasm, look it up. And secondly if that offends you what in gods name are you doing on the internet let alone in a forum that has discussed such things as animal abuse, the war in Iraq and the horrible things going on in Darfur. Check my other posts and you will see that a good portion of what I say is laced with sarcasm. Why is everyone so easily offended here lately. It's like we've all of a sudden turned this into a daycare center or something. I think it's funny how I'm wrong because of a little sarcasm, but this hobby does unspeakable damage to marine life everyday. If you all were so good natured and caring none of us would have even had a need for this site.

Besides, what's your reasoning for "hating" apple. Because they make great products that aren't crashing everyday or because that actually have great support. You're an IT "proffesional" your obviously biased. They make great products. If they didn't and they weren't so great Steve Jobs wouldn't be so rich and apple's stock wouldn't continue to go up.

I'm biased, I truly love apple

But what I'm not getting about this thread is all the slams about the product, and nobody even owns one.

I have it, I love it.
Agent X's wife has one, and she loves it.
But the "bad reviews", I've not seen or heard of.
well, except from other phone selling reps.
The hype? Yeah, there was a lot of hype but that shouldn't be a reason to not research them?
It's just funny how many negative things are said and mostly by people who have probably never even held one.
I mean, my hubby has a treo, and I think I hate it, but more accurately, I'd say, I didn't know how to use it. It is not user friendly to my little nontechno brain, but at least I tried it...
Ah well, to each their own I guess

I've had a few different "smart phones" treo 650 and blackjack. And with a doubt my wife's iphone is much better. I think a lot of people "hate" Apple just because they think it's the cool things to do. I agree with Tizzo that most of them have probably never held one.

I went ahead and bought an iphone. Let me just tell you that I love it. I have never owned a piece of hardware that had so many features that were all so easy and pleasurable to use.
I'm not biased either as I despise iMacs and iPods. The iPhone has a few shortcomings as well. You can't configure the desktop at all, none, nil...nothing. You can't even change the colors. As Tizzo said, you can't use the Bluetooth for anything at all other than a headset. You have to pay 99 cents to use a file as a ringtone. There is no copy and paste command.
Imbedded images in emails frequently do not load correctly, or at all. The battery life is horribly short if you use the internet.
Other than that I love this phone. LOVE LOVE LOVE! The best part is that it is highly software-driven... so it won't become obsolete for a very long time. In fact, Apple is soon releasing the source code for iPhone applications, so get ready to see tons and tons of free applications and games.

You can recieve pictures on an iphone through emails only. Fortunately the email program on the iphone is easy to use and fast.
You basically have to hack the iphone with one of the programs available to use your own ringtown without paying Steve Jobs 99 cents.

Have you discovered "meebo" yet?? Where you can IM as you would on a regular computer?? It's not texting, it's real IM.
Notice it's not www.
but this works on the iPhone, my son plugs my phone into the travel charger and IM's his friends the entire duration of a trip. He loves it too...

??? The iphone is exclusive to cingular.
The data usage is the phone companies bread and butter. Every company charges out the wazzooo to use data applications such as email and surfing the net.
I've used the Iphone and other products, being that I sold phones for 3 years. And it is actually a good product in and of itself. The downsides to it are compatibility to Windows products such as outlook. But that is basically with every Apple product.
The real downside is that it was produced for a short term product cycle. And it was released with obsolete technology. The EDGE data service as it is dubbed by Cingular/AT&T was rolled out 3 years ago. And is slower than dirt. It isn't even the fastest service that Cingular offers. I have heard rumors inside AT&T saying that they projected that phone being under $100 w/ two year agreement by Christmas and a second Gen being released around then too. You chumps who paid 600 or 700 dollars just paid to be part of a Beta test if you ask me.
The second problem I have with it is their support system. AT&T doesn't support the phone, if you have any problem with it, you have to find yourself an Apple Store. To me that is just playing games. It really makes AT&T look bad, and just isn't good business.
The third problem was the price. They MADE you sign a two year agreement for the service, and you didn't even get a price break on the phone. Every other phone released gets a huge price break, usually 100 to 200 in store with additional mail in rebates, that is why you see phone priced at 29.99 or Free. With the Iphone you didn't and still don't.
But that touch screen is so dang cool.

The software that is comming out should be pretty cool. Until you get bad software, I wonder how soon someone will come out with a story, I-phone being hijacked by 3rd party software. the opportunities for Malware are immense. As much as Apple is going to charge for the opportunity, there is not going to be anything free.

Edge isn't that slow, besides 3G drains your battery so quickly that most people who have it turn edge on and 3G off. I have a wifi network just about everywhere I go so I just use that anyways.
There is no way the phone will be $100 by Christmas. The 60gig Ipod hasn't gone down a dime and that was released a year ago.
You get unlimited data usage for $20.... I don't see that as chrging out the wazoo.
My iphone works with Outlook *boggle*

The iphone is not 3g compatible that is my point. And it is that slow EDGE technology is only about 200 Kbps. That is not even 4 x faster than a 56k modem. Cingular even offers a faster network using 3G technology called hsdpa. Theoretically that can offer 3.6 Mbps download speeds. But in reality it only goes about 1.2 Mbps in most areas. That is in Mega bits, not Kb. To break it down 3.6 megabits = 3,686.4 kilobits. 1 886.4 / 200 = 9.43200. That means there is a network avaliable from that carrier that is 9 times faster than the network the iphone uses. But it is battery friendly.
Personally I like fast. Imagine if you could actually get onto youtube and actually stream a video to your iphone. (and not be on a 802.11 network) That would be fun. Driving well riding in a car and watching tv on your phone wherever your going.
As for the 100 dollar iphone. I head that from someone who works for AT&T that does price point marketing. It isn't set in stone. But the phone has lowered in price. And it is around the price point that your average PDA phone is at. I'm thinking that you offer a phone with a full price of $399.99, you have $200 in instant savings then a $100 mail in rebate. Bam your 100 dollar phone. That is the way every other phone in this business works. At least after your 2 year contract. Especially when they release that new iphone with 3G browsing technology.
The 20 dollars for unlimited data is cheap, normally for most PDA phones they charge 40 dollars. But that is still 50% more than your basic phone plan of $39.99. A nice upsell if you ask me.

I say all that, there are major flaws to it, but as far as phones go in the land of the blind the man with one eye is king.

I agree that there are definately dissapointing things about the phone. Not being able to browse your files or use bluetooth top my list.

Not to get into the Mac PC debate, but that is one of the nice things about PC. You can change any and everything you want.
