After World War Two all of the African and Arab countries (that I can think of) were pro-American. The US had a head start because they weren't a colonial power, didn't support the re-establishment of colonial rule, and were...well...the good guys.
US support for Israel, right or wrong, has led to all the Arab countries being anti-American, and lots of the African countries too. Many sided with the USSR because my enemies friend is my friend.
(Lets face it, Israel dictates US foreign policy, and the Zionist lobby in the US really controls US domestic politics too).
To turn so much admiration into so much hate in such a short space of time is quite a feat IMHO.
