iron

a friend of mine sold me a ton of kent chemicals for really cheap. included in them was iron. just curious on the bottle it says it's good for calcerous algae. huh? not quite sure what that means and is there really any sense in dosing my tank with it. anyone who knows all the benefits, please tell me.

i don't know about the use of iron in an aquarium, but the algae in question includes halimeda whihc we all pretty much want and iron is supposed to help it, but i do not knwo if hte iron is actually good for an aquarium, i was always under the impression that it was not so good, especially with salt which would cause it to oxydize(meaning rust and stains), so if i were to use it i would definitely be sure to not OD with it
HTh some

Some trace iron is good and is reported to stop/hinder macroalgaes from going sexual and destroying a tank.

The only thing that will benefit from iron is macroalgae. it's kind of stupid to use iron in a reef tank to help macro to grow! you want macro to feed off nutrients in the tank. not some supplement!! don't use it! it's a waste of time and money. plus, if you overdose it, who knows what will happen!! ;)
