I'm no expert but I also have a 720 samsung and didn't want to spend an extra 700-800 just for the 1080. No big deal to me.

I gotta say it's quite awesome. But sometimes I feel it is a littleTOO clear. Like when I watch some movies I complain I can "see the set". I always loved the movie Van Helsing.... now the set looks very.... set like.

I don't think it is worth it... yet.
The problem is sources. Sure you have some Blu-ray players that can support it, but until your TV catches up, I don't think the value is there.
The other factor, although it doesn't apply here, is size. If you are under 30", I'm not sure 1080p will ever be worth it.

A year from now it will be worth it if you plan on getting a blue ray player. Right now a good number of the movies being transfered to blue ray have not been transfered all that well. As they begin doing a better job the 1080P will be nice.

good to hear..i got my eye on this panasonic 50" 1080p plasma for about $2000 with great reviews...thats y i asked....prices are really starting to drop...but i agree..they havn't really cracked into the full potential of blu ray yet..they are just filling up the disc with stuff u don't watch or need like remembering ur favorate parts of the movie...who cares..i just want a crisp clean picture with awesome sound....

I say yes, but I'm way over the top when it comes to my audio/visual equipement...I would agree that sometimes the blueray players are just too good, I have a Pioneer Elite and it tends to run little on the dark side, so when playing back movies that are filmed at night, it can sometimes be a little hard to see the images...But throw on a cartoon like Ice Age and it's mind blowing....And to answer your questions, I noticed a major difference between my old set and my 1080p Mitsu...

The 1080p picture is a dramatic improvement over 720p if you have the signal coming in that supports it (i.e. Blu-Ray). As soon as most of the cable providers upgrade their equipment, and bring fiber optics into your neighborhood (which is pretty much a reqiurement to get a 1080p signal into your home), a TV that supports 1080p will almost be a requirement. It's getting to the point that in the next couple years, you'll start findind it hard to even locate a TV that has 720p. Next year, the FCC is requiring all TV transmissions to be digital, ditching the analog signal altogether. So the 720p TV's will succomb to the technical advances like the old tube TV's. Give it another year, and you'll be able to pick up a nice 1080p TV for under $500.
