Is 9w PC light enough for chaeto algae?

my mini aqualight has two 9w 6700k pc lights and the cheato grows like crazy (plexiglass neglected and bulbs over a year old too). the coralife mini aqualight is only $20 and I'm sure home depot/lowes have several clamp on lamps with more than 9w for cheap as well.

it has worked for me for almost 2yrs and two tanks but use the freshwater version (two 6700k bulbs instead of the actinic and 10k).

Is there a name of what kind of light you got? I scrubed off the paint in the back of the bio cube, so thats whear the light is going to be. How many watts is it? Will it work if i get the same kind of bulb and just use a diff kind of lighting fixture? I got thos all over the house to light up the rooms.

because two 6700k bulbs work way better at growing plants/photosynthesis than a10k and an actinic bulb (which is virtually a waste of 9w for growing cheato). one 10k and one actinic may not be enough.

You know, you could always just put the chaeto in the main part of the tank and prune as necessary.

You don't have to have it in the basket. Just stuff it in between a couple of rocks or something, and prune it back when it starts getting out of hand. I've seen it done before.

Will what light work for what? The light that came with your cube should be fine for growing chaeto in the tank. I have no idea if any of that other stuff will work if you put the chaeto in the back chamber and try and light it through the back. There's really only one way to find out.

I shouldn't have to tell you this, but the only way to find out if it will work is to just try it.
